Listings

Use the Listings API to manage telephone number listings in the NumberBarn Marketplace. Telephone numbers listed for sale or license will appear in various channels, including NumberBarn's website, search engine, and extended distribution network.

NumberBarn classifies telephone numbers are either "on-net" (NumberBarn manages the telephone numbers on your behalf) or "off-net" (the seller manages the telephone numbers through their carrier of their choice). Off-net telephone numbers are subject to certain verification requirements prior to listing.

Selling Numbers

Most types of telephone numbers may be listed for sale in the NumberBarn Marketplace. It is the seller's responsibility to choose the list price of the telephone number, and to keep the telephone number with active service, in good standing, until the telephone number is sold.

Upon a successful sale, NumberBarn will collect the retail price from the buyer, transfer ownership of the telephone number from the seller to the buyer, and send the collected funds (less NumberBarn's fee) to the seller.

To list a telephone number for sale, simply assign a price (in cents, minimum $10.00, e.g. at least 1000), and the isListed flag of true.

Be careful when choosing your pricing. When listing a telephone number for sale, you are making a commitment to sell it at the specified price. While you can list, unlist, and change the listed price of a telephone number at any time, you can not cancel a sale once NumberBarn begins processing an order.

[Regulatory restrictions](/api/docs/api/secondary-market-tf-ns apply to the sale of most NANP toll-free numbers.

Licensing Numbers

Telephone numbers can be offerred for license (a monthly license fee for the right to use a number, where ownership is retained by the seller). Learn more about licensing

To offer a number for license, assign a licenseMonthlyFee (in cents; minimum $10.00, e.g. at least 1000) and the isLicensable flag of true. You may also assign an optional licenseSetupFee (in cents), and licenseAnnualIncrease (in percent, e.g. 5 means 5%).

Licensing is perpetual, and can only be cancelled by the licensee. While some licenses might last only a month, others may last for years. Choose your license terms accordingly.

Negotiable Pricing / Offers

Telephone numbers that are listed for sale may also be listed as "negotiable", meaning that the seller is willing to entertain offers below the listed price. Learn more about negotiations.

To list a number as "negotiable", specify the isNegotiable flag of true, along with an optional minimumOffer (in cents). Offers below the minimum offer will be automatically declined.

Listings with a price of 0 and isNegotiable flag of true will show in some channels as "call for price".

Spelling

Sellers are encouraged to suggest spellings for their numbers. If approved, the spelling will be shown alongside the number in the listing. In some cases, our system will automatically assign spellings when applicable. Learn more about spellings.

Pig Pick

To increase visiblity of a listing, assign a pigPickPercentage (e.g. 5 means 5%), and isPigPick flag of true. This is your bid to have your listing feature prominently in the "Pig Pick" section of the NumberBarn Marketplace, and will be the additional fee assessed only in the event of a successful sale.

Automatic "On Sale" Pricing

When a seller lowers the listed price of an existing telephone number, NumberBarn will automatically tag the telephone number as "on sale" for 7 days, when these conditions are met:

  • The original price has been consistent for at least 7 days
  • The price is lowered by at least 10%

In the NumberBarn Marketplace, "on sale" telephone numbers appear prominently, and show the original price alongside the current ("sale") price. After 7 days, the price remains unchanged, but the "on sale" tag is automatically removed.

Off-net Verification

Marketplace integrity is one of our core principles, so we make every effort to ensure that the telephone numbers listed in our marketplace are actually for sale by their rightful owner.

For telephone numbers that are not managed by NumberBarn, you must complete a verification process to establish ownership. There are several ways to do this:

  • Letter of Authorization: If you manage your own SPID(s) or Responsible Organizations(s), or if you have a direct, strategic relationship with one or more carriers, you may provide us with a Letter of Authorization (LOA) granting NumberBarn permission to list numbers that you designate from specific carriers. Specific language is required in the LOA, so contact us for details.
  • Carrier credentials: Provide us read-only credentials to verify your inventory list (works with Bandwidth, Sinch, Peerless, Telnyx; contact us regarding other carriers)
  • Automated test calls: NumberBarn will periodically place calls to your telephone numbers from a known Caller ID; you forward the calls to us via SIP
  • Manual test calls/texts: You periodically initiate a verification call or text; NumberBarn will send you a code which you provide us as proof that you control the telephone number (suitable for testing & low volume cases). This form of verification expires after 30 days.
  • Other methods are available on a case-by-case basis. Contact us to discuss your specific needs.
