However, these days, several area codes are used throughout the city. (Gasp!)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re looking for a Vancouver phone number, it\u2019s easier than you might think\u2026 even if you&#8217;re nowhere near British Columbia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-size:30px\">What Are Vancouver&#8217;s Area Codes?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Today, the main area codes available in Vancouver and the surrounding Lower Mainland include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>604:<\/strong> The original British Columbia area code, now historically associated with Vancouver and the Lower Mainland.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>778:<\/strong> Introduced in 2001 to provide additional numbers around Greater Vancouver before expanding across the province in 2007.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>236:<\/strong> Added in 2013 as a province-wide area code.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>672:<\/strong> Introduced in 2019, also serving British Columbia province-wide.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>257:<\/strong> The newest addition, another province-wide area code&nbsp; introduced on May 24, 2025.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Back in 1947, when the North American Numbering Plan was introduced, British Columbia received just one area code: 604.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>That meant Vancouver, Victoria, Kelowna, Prince George, and communities separated by hundreds of miles all shared the same three digits.
