Some choice names on the list include <strong>Duke Snider<\/strong>, <strong>Eddie Murray<\/strong>, and (very) arguably the greatest hitter of all time, the late, great <strong>Tony Gwynn<\/strong>. This is largely due to the aforementioned Duke Snider and Eddie Murray, but don\u2019t forget about <strong>Joe Gordon<\/strong>, <strong>Darryl Strawberry<\/strong>, and <strong>Ray Lankford<\/strong>, among others who\u2019ve tacked on to that huge chasm!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>San Diego\u2019s 619 does get the spotlight for second place thanks to all-time great Ted Williams (though he in fact played his entire 19 season career for the Boston Red Sox). He might not have a stadium named after him, but he gets a hometown mention in San Diego with a major freeway (SR-56) in his name, the \u201cTed Williams Parkway.\u201d&nbsp;(How\u2019d we know that? We wondered which area code was batting the highest and producing the greatest concentration of not-so-average batters. Which hometown heroes does the 478 have to thank?&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"BattingWAR\"><strong>Batting WAR<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Though if you want to consider baseball greatness by a more modern statistical standard, that would likely be \u201cWAR\u201d (or, \u201cwins above replacement\u201d). We won\u2019t get into how WAR is fully calculated because we don\u2019t have a week of your time, but the broad idea is that each full number represents an additional victory you could ascribe to that player\u2019s contributions. The Bronx\/Queens\/Brooklyn\/Staten Island area has a massive baseball heritage to thank for winning the batting WAR title, thanks to all-time 718 greats like <strong>Whitey Ford<\/strong>, <strong>Lou Gehrig<\/strong>, <strong>Alex Rodriguez<\/strong>, and <strong>Eddie Collins<\/strong> helping take the title. (But shout out to third place <strong>410 &#8211; Baltimore<\/strong>, whose legacy we\u2019ll expand on later.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"Pitches\"><strong>Pitches<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ah, finally, the pitchers! Among the all-timers that helped propel the New York area to the title are <strong>Warren Spahn<\/strong>, <strong>Orel Hershisher<\/strong>, <strong>Sandy Koufax<\/strong>, and undoubtedly the coolest name in this entire article, <strong>Old Hoss Radbourn<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Rounding out the top three winning cities are <strong>Detroit, MI<\/strong>, and <strong>St.Louis, MO<\/strong> (aka, \u201cBaseball Heaven\u201d).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"CompleteGames\"><strong>Complete Games<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cComplete Games\u201d is a somewhat old-school stat, as considerably fewer pitchers throw an entire nine innings in the modern era, compared to the first half of baseball history.
