Fighting Robocalls and Caller ID Spoofing
NumberBarn has implemented STIR/SHAKEN, the telecommunications industry’s most advanced caller ID authentication technology, to help combat illegal robocalls and caller ID spoofing. Think of STIR/SHAKEN as a digital signature for phone calls—similar to how websites use HTTPS certificates to prove their identity, our system cryptographically signs every outbound call to verify that the caller ID is legitimate.
What Makes Our Implementation Special
When you make a call using your NumberBarn number, our system adds a secure digital signature to that call using industry-standard encryption. We achieve what’s called “A-level attestation”—the highest level of trust—because we have a direct relationship with you (our customer and NumberBarn platform user) and can verify that you’re authorized to use that NumberBarn phone number.
For example, if you own the NumberBarn number 206-555-1234, our system signs outbound calls from that number with A-level attestation because we have provisioned that number to you, and maintain a direct business relationship with you as our customer. This signature travels with the call and can be verified by the receiving phone carrier, giving them confidence that the caller ID hasn’t been spoofed.

Supporting Complex Call Scenarios
NumberBarn goes beyond basic STIR/SHAKEN compliance by properly handling call forwarding scenarios—one of the most technically challenging aspects of the standard.
When someone calls your NumberBarn number (like 206-555-1234) and you’ve set it to forward to your personal cell phone (425-555-9999), our system preserves the original caller’s authentication information while adding our own signature to show that NumberBarn legitimately forwarded the call. This creates a complete “chain of trust” that follows the call through each step, ensuring that call forwarding doesn’t inadvertently make legitimate calls look suspicious.
Industry Leadership and Compliance
Our STIR/SHAKEN implementation uses certificates from Neustar, a trusted authority in the telecommunications industry, and follows all relevant standards (RFC 8224, RFC 8588, RFC 5806).
We’ve engineered our system to work seamlessly with both major carriers and smaller providers, ensuring that calls made through NumberBarn are properly authenticated regardless of which carrier network they travel through. This level of compliance helps protect your reputation as a caller and increases the likelihood that your calls will be answered rather than flagged as potential spam.
