Under the FCC's "local number portability" (LNP) rules, you are legally able to keep your number when you move or change phone companies. That includes your old home phone, pre-paid cell phone, old business line or mobile phone service.

Porting means moving your phone number from one provider to another. Your phone number must currently be active to port. You'll need the following information from your current service provider:
Most ports/transfers take between 3 - 7 days.
Secure storage for your phone number, new or old, landline or wireless.
“Porting” simply means transferring your existing landline or cell phone number from one telephone service provider to another. We can port most wireless and landline phone numbers in the United States and Canada. Verify if we can port in your number here
Once your number has safely transferred to NumberBarn you can cancel your old phone service.
By default, any callers who dial your parked number will hear a short, pre-recorded message telling them the number is parked with NumberBarn. You can also customize this message with your own greeting. View call logs anytime within your account or from the app. You can add text messaging to give your parked number even more functionality.
Porting can take as little as 3 days, and as long as 30 days. Most wireless numbers typically port in 3 business days (or less); landlines generally port in 7 business days from major carriers, and 10-20 business days from smaller carriers. We’ll keep you updated throughout the porting process!
You can transfer (port) your number from NumberBarn to most carriers, as long as they accept the port. We recommend verifying portability first.
Cellular phones and VoIP lines are compatible with any number. However, physical landlines must be associated with an area code for the region it is in.
Note for landlines: Not every phone number will work at every address in your area code due to legacy telecom infrastructure called "rate centers." Please check with your gaining carrier to determine if your physical address can accept your desired phone number prior to porting. Also, you can always add Call Forwarding to forward calls from the number you’ve ported in to NumberBarn, to any other number (like your cell number, etc.).
There are no contracts or commitments with NumberBarn and no fees to port away. Cancel at anytime. Your new provider may charge their own port-in fee.

Straightforward phone number management. No contracts or commitments.
